Edith was born in [[Newport, Rhode Island]], the daughter of [[William Starr Miller]] <ref>(Oct. 26, 1856 - Sept. 14, 1935)</ref> and [[Edith Caroline Warren]] <ref>(April 15, 1866 - May 17, 1944)</ref>. Her father was a New York industrialist and real estate operator.
