== Associations with far left and adult pro-homosexual activism ==
Today less often mentioned aspects include associations with far left and adult pro-[[homosexual]] activism. Davd Thorstad who founded the organization in 1978 was a [[Trotskyist]] and a former president of New York's "Gay Worker's Alliance". Another member was the homosexual and leftist activist [[Allen Ginsberg]].

The organization was earlier allowed to participate in [[LGBT pride parades]]. NAMBLA was the first US organization to be a member of the "International Lesbian and Gay Association" (ILGA). In 1993, ILGA achieved [[United Nations]] consultative status. NAMBLA's membership of ILGA drew heavy criticism and caused the US to cut of some UN funding, the suspension and later expulsion of ILGA from the UN, and ILGA expelling NAMBLA. In 1994 the "Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation" and the "National Gay and Lesbian Task Force" adopted resolutions condemning NAMBLA.
