The thesis of the book is that the decline was not natural nor an accident; rather it was a "dispossession" by anti-national forces and hostile ethnoreligious pressure groups. [[David Duke]] has said it was a strong influence on his politics personally, when he read it as a young man. "I think this is the most important book since the Second World War" --David Duke on "The Dispossessed Majority"

The popularity of the book inspired Robertson to begin a journal to continue a dialogue with the large audience he had tapped into. This became a reality in 1975 with the launch of ''[[Instauration]]''.
