White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan of Mississippi was a major White resistance Ku Klux Klan organization based in Mississippi in the mid-1960s. Unlike other national Klan organizations which at the time lead open rallies against racial integration, the White Knights operated underground using terror tactics including murder and bombings in a battle against the federal government, civil rights organizations, and Jewish institutions. At times the group issued a flyer publication titled The Klan-Ledger.
A 1964 FBI assessment of the group listed it as the second largest Klan in America--behind the United Klans of America--with 1939 members, 57 klaverns in Mississippi and five in Tennessee.[1]
Sam Bowers was the Imperial Wizard and leader of the organization.
