Atman (book)
Atman: A Reconstruction of tbe Solar Cosmology of tbe Indo-Europeans is a book by Dr. Alexander Jacob. This pioneering reconstruction of tbe solar cosmology of tbe ancient Indo-Europeans is based on tbe literary evidence of tbe Puranas, tbe Vedas, tbe Brahmanas, tbe Avesta, tbe records of tbe religions of Egypt, Sumer, Akkad, Assyria and tbe Hurrians, as well as tbe earliest theogonies of tbe Hittites, tbe proto-Stoic and Orphic Greeks, and tbe ancient Germans. The judicious collation of these documents reveals to us, for tbe first time, tbe extraordinary spiritual vision - of tbe creation as well as of tbe course of tbe cosmos - which informs tbe religion of tbe ancients. The organic correspondence between tbe macrocosm and tbe human microcosm that emerges in tbe course of this study also provides tbe key to tbe proper understanding of tbe esoteric philosophy of tbe Indians. This work should therefore be of vital interest to all students of tbe religion and mythology of tbe ancient Near East as well as to those of Indian and Greek philosophy. [1]
