'''Primo Michele Levi''' (31 July 1919 &ndash; 11 April 1987) was a Jewish chemist and writer. He is best known for his accounts of being a prisoner at [[Auschwitz]] and in particular for the book ''If This Is a Man'' or ''Survival in Auschwitz'' (United States title).

The [[revisionist]] [[Germar Rudolf]] has written that "''Now to Primo Levi, who after [[Elie Wiesel]] is the next most famous Auschwitz survivor. In his book he writes that only after the war he had learned there were gassing at Auschwitz, and therefore only alludes to them in his texts (Levi 1947). After 1976, however, in an appendix, the gas chambers appear so often and in such a style that it deceitfully suggests Levi had firsthand experience of them. Levi also stated (similarly to Elie Wiesel and [[Israel Gutman]]) that when the Soviet Communists were approaching the camp, he out of fear would probably have preferred to join the other inmates leaving Auschwitz with the SS, if only he had not been so sick.<ref name=HH15/> See also [[Holocaust Memorial Days]] on Communist atrocities at the liberation of Auschwitz.
