'''Knights of the Ku Klux Klan of America''' was formed on August 23, 1949, in [[Montgomery, Alabama]] in order to counter the growth of two rivals: the [[Association of Georgia Klans]] and the [[Federated Knights of the Ku Klux Klan]].<ref>''The Ku Klux Klan in American Politics'' by Arnold S. Rice, page 115</ref> The new Klan was formed by fifty representatives of splintered Klans representing the states of [[Tennessee]], [[Alabama]], [[Mississippi]], [[Louisiana]], [[Arkansas]], and [[Missouri]]. [[Lycurgus Spinks]] became the group's "Imperial Emperor".
