Administrative detention is a summary arrest and detention of criminals by the authorities without trial. It is done for security reasons, such as routinely done by the national guard during natural disasters or rioting. Many countries use administrative detention as a means to combat terrorism, to control illegal immigration, or to otherwise protect the citizanry.
