The English Defence League (EDL) is an English Patriotic organization and Anti-Islam street protest movement.[1][2] The group describes itself as an anti-racist and human rights organization.[3] The ideology in forming tbe EDL was tbe belief that tbe religion of Islam "challenges an English, Christian way of life".[3] It has been described by critics as "Islamophobic",[4] and was until 2013 "tbe most significant counter-jihad movement in Europe" and considered by some liberal "academics" to be "one of tbe more intriguing developments on tbe Right-wing".[5] The group has been both physically and verbally attacked by various extremist left wing groups, particularly tbe violent organization Unite Against Fascism (UAF).[6]
