John Creagh Scott

John Creagh Scott (born September 18, 1879, died December 6, 1957) was a British Lieutenant-Colonel and author of the 1954 book, Hidden Government, a book based on the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. He was a regular soldier who served with distinction in the South African War and in the First World War. When he retired from the Army due to wounds received on active service, he settled down in an English country village and began to study politics and economics.

Background

John Creagh Scott was born on September 18, 1879

He was the elder son of Captain James Creagh Scott.

He served with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in the South African War and was seriously wounded.

In the First World War, on promotion to Lt Col in 1916, he took over temporary command, in June 1916, of the combined battalion of 5/6th Royal Scots Fusiliers, one of which had been the command of Winston Churchill, this after Churchill had been appointed to an important post at home and just before the Battle of the Somme.

Later he Commanded the 2nd Battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders on the Sornrnc and was seriously wounded.

For the last year-and-a-half of the war he served on the staff of the XVth Corps in France.

In addition to other distinctions he received the Croix de Guerre avec Etoile d'Or and was mentioned in despatches six times.

He was a member of the National Farmers Union, the Irish Farmers Federation and the National Agricultural and Industrial Development Association of Eire. He was a member of the Devon Rivers Board, the Devon Joint Fisheries Association and the Devon Sea Fisheries' Committee. Salmon and trout culture had been a life-long study.

After being invalided from the Army, due to wounds received in action, he studied politics and economics, settling down in an English country village (Langhill, Moretonhampstead, Devon) and began to study politics and economics.

He was an early backer of A.K. Chesterton's journal Candour, and was a member of the Candour council. He was also elected onto the League of Empire Loyalists (LEL) national executive committee.

In 1954, at the age of 75, he published his book, Hidden Government, a book based on the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. It was a best-seller, selling 7,000 copies in the first year.

He lived at Killadysert, County Clare, Ireland. He was invested as a Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.). He was decorated with the award of the Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.).

He had a son, Captain John James Scott, whom married Katherine Mary Bruce, born on 16 May 1928. She is the daughter of Robert Charles Bruce and Hon. Kate Mary Maugham.

John Creagh Scott had married and divorced a number of times. He was married to Sybil Scott (nee Oldham), but divorced 1924. He later married Mary Elizabeth Marjory Scott, but divorced 1933. He finally married Joan M. (Mary) Scott (nee Lethbridge), leaving as a widow when he died.

He died at Langhill, Moretonhampstead, Devon on December 6, 1957. He is buried at St Andrew's Church Cemetery, South Tawton, Devon, England. He was 78 years old.
