Hillbilly is an often derogatory term for people who dwell in rural, mountainous areas in the United States.
Stated to derive from hill + Billy/Billie, popular or pet form of William.[1]
As Whites are those usually so labelled, it is considered rather politically correct to ridicule "hillbillies" in mainstream media, something not occurring for non-White groups, another politically correct double standard.
