Devil (also referred to as Satan and Lucifer), the spirit or power of evil. Though sometimes used for minor demonic spirits, the word devil generally refers to the prince of evil spirits and as such takes various forms in the religions of the world.

Christians understand the Devil to be the author of lies and promoter of evil and sin. It is held that he can go no further than the word of God allows and exists to test the souls of men; to test man's will when confronted with the temptation to fall away from the life of sanctity, for the kingdom of lies.
