The Communist Party of the United States of America (CPUSA), also known as the Communist Party USA, is a Communist party in the United States. Founded in 1919, its membership reached its peak of 85,000 in 1942.

The party made extensive efforts to recruit Blacks. For a time before WWII, the Soviet Union ordered the party to work for a separate country for Blacks within the so-called "Black Belt". However, this was later abandoned. It was influential in the Civil Rights Movement. See also Martin Luther King Jr.
