During the Second World War the United States of America used internment camps for enemy civilians within the control of the government. German, Italian and Japanese families were housed in these camps. In addition, a number of families from South American countries were also interned.[1]

Over 11,000 Germans and 3,000 Italians were detained, this included some having American citizenship.
