Finnish troops during the Winter War.

The Winter War (30 November 1939 - 12 March 1940), also known as the Russo-Finnish War, was a war waged by the Soviet Union against Finland. Finland was extremely outnumbered, especially regarding tanks and aircraft, but despite this inflicted great losses on the Soviet forces.

While Finland eventually had to cede territory at the peace treaty, many sources conclude that the Soviet Union had intended to conquer all of Finland, which was prevented by the Finnish defense.
