Original Southern Klans Inc. was founded by Alton E. Pate of Columbus, Georgia. The group received its charter on June 30, 1948. Previously members of the organization were associated with Dr. Samuel Green’s Association of Georgia Klans. Jack Johnston a minister and newspaper publisher along with attorney Fred K. New were seen by some to be the real power behind the Original Southern Klans.[1]

By February 1949 the organization collapsed from lack of support. However the group was able to publish two editions of their newspaper The Klansman.

In 1948 the group published The Original Southern Klans: Klansman's Manual.
