The People's Mujahedin of Iran, abbreviated MEK, PMOI or MKO, is an Iranian Marxist group, previously listed as a terrorist organization by many Western governments, and still listed a terrorist organization by Iraq and Iran. It was founded in 1965, participated in the Iranian Revolution but was soon prohibited by the Islamist regime, and sided with Iraq during the IranโIraq War. It has been accused by numerous commentators of being financed, trained, and armed by Israel to assassinate Iranian nuclear scientists and educators.
