William (Bill) Hendrix (born ca. 1911) was Grand Dragon of the Tallahassee-based Southern Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. The group was chartered in March 1949.[1] Hendrix wanted to go national and changed the name of his group to the Southern and Northern Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.
On June 21, 1951 Hendrix announced his candidacy for Governor of Florida.
He was convicted in 1952 of sending defamatory postcards in the mail and given a three-year suspended sentence.
Hendrix founded the American Confederate Army first as a joke,[2] but later the group gained some interest and he began issuing certificates making individuals "Colonels" in the ACA.[3]
In June 1953 Hendrix was succeeded as Grand Dragon by C. L. Parker.
In the Fall of 1954 he formed the White Brotherhood.
Hendrix was a plumbing contractor originally from Aniston, Alabama.
