Battle of Cable Street

The Battle of Cable Street was an event that took place in Cable Street and Whitechapel in the East End of London, on Sunday 4 October 1936. It was a clash between the Metropolitan Police, sent to protect a march by members of the British Union of Fascists led by Oswald Mosley, and various opponents, including social anarchists, Communists, and jewish groups. Around 175 people were injured including police, women and children.

Mythology regarding the event is frequently cited by contemporary antifa groups.
