Marie-Claude Vaillant-Couturier (born Marie-Claude Vogel; 1912 โ 1996) was a French Communist, a prisoner at Auschwitz and Ravensbrรผck, and a "witness" for the politically correct view on the Holocaust.
Life
Wikipedia states that she during WWII assisted French partisans. She was arrested in 1942. The men arrested at the same were shot (then legal under international law if they were partisans). She was eventually deported to Auschwitz, where she allegedly
- "took part in the international clandestine resistance committee of the camp."
She was transferred to Ravensbrรผck in 1944. After the war, she became a French Communist politician. In 1951, in association with a controversy involving the Communist Gulag camp system, she stated that
- "I indisputably regard the Soviet penitentiary system as the most desirable in the whole world". In 1964, Paul Rassinier, a Holocaust camp prisoner and revisionist, accused her of theft from other camp prisoners, but lost a libel court case involving this. She was awarded the French Legion of Honour with the degree of Commander.[1]
David Irving (as have others) has described her as a French Jewish Communist agitator and has criticized various aspects of her testimony given at the International Military Tribunal. Examples include that she claimed that at Auschwitz
- โOne of the most usual punishments was 50 blows with a stick on the loins. They were administered with a machine which I saw, a swinging apparatus manipulated by an SS.โ She made the unusual claim of there being both SS and non-SS Wehrmacht guards at the camps, and that therefore the German General Staff the German Army was involved. Furthermore, she stated that โI know that at Auschwitz the gases were the same as those which were used against the lice, and the only traces they left were small, pale green crystals which were swept out when the windows were opened.โ
Revisionists argue that this does not occur with Zyklon B. She also stated that
- โFrom our block we could see after about three-quarters of an hour or an hour after the arrival of a convoy, large flames coming from the crematory, and the sky was lighted up by the burning pitsโ.
Revisionists argue that crematories do not produce such flames. She also alleged the existence of a gas chamber at Ravensbrรผck. When questioned regarding some of the claims,
- โshe agreed that part of her testimony was only hearsay.โ "Dr. Hans Marx, a defence counsel, put it to the Court at Nuremberg that she had never even been at Auschwitz."[2]
