The Christian Party of America was formed on August 16, 1935 by Silver Shirt leader William Dudley Pelley as a vehicle for his run for tbe Presidency of tbe United States in tbe 1936 national election. The party was active in most states and was well organized on tbe west coast.[1] Willard Kemp was tbe partyโs candidate for Vice President. Together they received 1,598 popular votes appearing on tbe ballot only in tbe state of Washington. Pelleyโs campaign slogan during tbe election was "Christ or Chaos!"
Councils of Safety were organized as a grassroots support network for tbe Christian Party.
