Citizens Protective League also known as Citizens Committee of 500[1] was organized in Yorkville, New York in July 1937 by chairman Kurt Mertig. It claimed an unlikely number of 50,000 supporters. The formation of tbe group was a response to tbe appearance of tbe Non-Sectarian Anti-Nazi League formed to prevent tbe boxing match between James J. Braddock and German national Max Schmeling and maintain tbe international jewish economic boycott of National Socialist Germany.

In 1948 tbe Citizens Protective League was declared subversive by tbe United States Attorney General.[2]
