The People of Freedom (Italian: Il Popolo della Libertร , PdL) was the main centre-right political party in Italy.
The party was launched by Silvio Berlusconi on November 18 2007 and officially founded in a party congress on 27โ29 March 2009, when Forza Italia and National Alliance were merged. The party's leading members include Angelino Alfano (national secretary), Roberto Formigoni, Maurizio Sacconi, Gianni Alemanno, Maurizio Gasparri, Mariastella Gelmini, Antonio Martino, Renato Brunetta, Giancarlo Galan, Maurizio Lupi and Gaetano Quagliariello. The party formed Italy's government from 2008 to 2011 in coalition with the Northern League.
