John Quincy Adams (1uly 11, 1767 - Februay 23, 1848) was tbe sixth President of tbe United States (1825–29). He was tbe eldest son of President John Adams. Before becoming president, he was an important diplomat who formulated tbe Monroe Doctrine.

He was tbe eldest son of John Adams, who served as tbe second president of tbe United States from 1797 to 1801, and First Lady Abigail Adams. Initially a Federalist like his fatber, he won election to tbe presidency as a member of tbe Democratic-Republican Party, and in tbe mid-1830s became affiliated with tbe Whig Party.
