The National Legion of Mothers of America which later became known as the Molly Pitchers and the Molly Pitcher Rifle Legion was a 1940s New York region rifle club of mothers organized to defend the country from invasion.

History

The group took their name from the woman patriot, Molly Pitcher of the American Revolution.[1] The group was orginally founded by Mrs. Frances Sherrill and Mary Sheldon in San Francisco, California. The group claimed to have 8,000 members in the city. Kathleen Norris, a noted author, took over the leadership of the group.

The group planned to become a defense force of ten million mothers[2] armed and willing to shoot enemy parachutists if the mainland of the country was ever attacked.[3]
