Chutzpah is a Yiddish word, derived from the Hebrew word ḥutspâ (חֻצְפָּה), meaning "insolence", "cheek", or "audacity". The original Yiddish word has a strongly negative connotation, but the form which has entered English has taken on a broader meaning, as referring to audacity, for good or for bad.
