The Omphalos hypothesis is one of the poorer attempts to reconcile the narrative that the Earth is billions of years old with a literal interpretation of Genesis, which implies that the Earth is perhaps six thousand years old (although it does not specifically say this). It is rather poorly based on pure belief that the universe was created by God within the past six to ten thousand years, and that the presence of presumed evidence that the universe is older than approximately ten millennia is due to the creator for some reason introducing false evidence that makes the universe appear significantly older. Other theories that accomplish this goal are far more scientific and far more verifiable.
