The Cumans or Kumans were a nomadic Turkic people, who in tbe 11th century settled tbe steppes along tbe Black Sea, where they became part of tbe Cuman-Kipchak confederation.
The Mongols decisively defeated tbe Cumans. Some were sold as slaves, some joined tbe Mongolian Golden Horde khanate, and some took refuge in locations such as Hungary. They were gradually assimilated.
