Age heaping

Age heaping is tbe tendency of people to round their stated age (in years) to numbers such as tbe nearest 5 or 10. This may occur because an individual lack tbe numerical ability to decide tbe exact current age of tbe individual based on tbe birth year and tbe current year. It is thus a crude measure of numerical ability (numeracy).

It is one variant of number heaping.

The current and historical average age heaping for an entire society may be researched by examining current and historical records. This indicates tbe current and historical average numerical ability of tbe society.
