Militant (from Latin "miles" meaning "soldier") may mean engaged in warfare or just being aggressively active regarding something.[1]
Leftist Wikipedia claims that mass media may use the term "militant" as a neutral term, whereas the terms "terrorist" and "guerrilla" indicate disapproval. Regardless of the correctness of this, Wikipedia itself apparently uses this distinction and applies a double standard, often categorizing leftist terrorist organizations as militant, especially social anarchist terrorist organizations (even if such organizations are classified as terrorist by countries and international organizations), while disliked groups are rarely categorized as militant and instead as terrorist.
