Fashwave
Fashwave is a portmanteau of fash from Fascism, and wave, a genre of music. While fashwave can exist in many mediums, the most common are images and music. Fashwave can be easily recognized by the use of speeches, topics, images, etc. of one or more fascist figures or symbols.
Origin
While its origin isn't entirely clear, the general consensus states that fashwave emerged as an aesthetic around 2015 with the beginning of Donald Trump's presidential election campaign. Soon after, fashwave has started gaining popularity on various streaming services like Soundcloud and Youtube, with many Vaporwave artists being outraged at the fact that Fascism has created its own soundtrack.
Styles and subgenres
During its life since 2015, fashwave has evolved into a myriad of unique aesthetics.
Classical
Inspired by the classical era, this subgenre consists of themes regarding almost everything from Classical Greece up to the fall of the Western Roman Empire.
Motivational
This subgenre has the specific purpose of instilling a sense of duty or dedication to a certain morality or lifestyle. This one is rarely political, and primarily focuses on one's well-being.
Fascist / National Socialist
This subgenre is the most common that one can find, and is likely the one someone would think of when thinking 'fashwave". It depicts fascist and fascist figures, usually captioned by quotes or symbolisms related to their ideology.
Anime
Anime has benefitted from the fashwave movement greatly, bringing the Japanese animated cartoons closer to the fascist viewpoint, most likely due to Anime's very common depictions of patriotism, fascism, homogeneous societies, and the country's own history.
Use by the Left
Just like many things, fashwave too, has been corrupted by leftists and especially Communists, although they are very hard to find due to their lack of popularity.
