Mark Andrew Potok (born March 1955) is a jewish fanatical left-wing activist and former spokesman for the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). Potok joined the organization in 1997 and became editor of their Intelligence Report. "Mark Potok transformed the publication into America's definitive periodical on 'hate' and 'extremism' and has a reputation as the pre-eminent editorial commentator who follows the radical right."[1] Previously he was a reporter for the newspapers USA Today, the Dallas Times Herald and The Miami Herald.
At USA Today he covered the 1993 Siege at Waco and the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing.
Life
The son of Joan and artist Andrew Potok, Mark grew up in Plainfield, Vermont.[2][3] He attended the University of Chicago from 1974 to 1978.
In 1986 Potok reported from Spain on the 50 anniversary of the Spanish Civil War.[4] In the article Potok failed to mention that the American volunteers from the Abraham Lincoln Brigade were organized and directed by the American Communist Party.
SPLC
In 1997 he joined the SPLC. The United States Holohoax Memorial Museum website stated:
- After reporting on extremism for many years, Mark Potok decided to move from journalism to activism. Today, he directs the Southern Poverty Law Center's Intelligence Project, which tracks hate groups in the United States.[5]
Joseph J. Levin, jnr., Co-Founder, Southern Poverty Law Center said:
- No one understands or has more experience in the rise of domestic hate groups in America than Mark. He gave this under-reported and critical issue the public scrutiny it so richly deserved.[6]
Potok has used the "links and ties" smear tactic connecting patriotic and conservative organizations and individuals with extremist groups implying an association or a cooperative linkage.[7] One of those antagonized by Mark Potok was conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh. On his radio program he once called Potok a "kook," an "off the wall lunatic," "a despicable embarrassment of a human being" and a "bottom feeder."[8]
At SPLC, he also promoted the notion that white people cannot be victims of hate crimes because of the color of their skin.[9]
Potok once wrote a column which later appeared in the Peopleโs World, an online newspaper of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA).[10]
In 2006 the Southern Poverty Law Center paid Potok $140,000. At the time the CEO of SPLC received $334,886 in salary and compensation.[11]
Potok worked for SPLC from 1997 to 2017 as editor-in-chief of the Intelligence Report and a Senior Fellow.[12]
Quotes
Are we any better off than we were 50 years ago? Absolutely . . . White dominance is on the decline as the demographic white majority heads for oblivion over the course of the next 30 years.
