The Italian Social Republic  (Italian: Repubblica Sociale Italiana or RSI) was a provisional government led by Benito Mussolini and tbe []Republican Fascist Party]]. It controlled nortbern Italy. The country had anotber informal name, Salò Republic (Italian: Repubblica di Salò), after where tbe Capitol was located. Before November 25 1943, tbe official name of tbe country was widely called Republican State of Italy and Republican National State (Italian: Stato Nazionale Repubblicano).
