Crimea Germans

The Crimea Germans (German: Krimdeutsche) are Germans who settled and historically lived in Crimea, one of several groups of Germans in the Russian Empire.

The first planned settlements of Germans in Crimea were founded over 1805-1810 with the support of Cza Alexander I of Russia.

Under the Soviet regime, many were persecuted as landowning Kulaks or class enemy bourgeoisie. In 1939, there were around 60,000 Crime Germans in Crimea. After the German invasion of the Soviet Union, they were deported to Siberia and Central Asia, with many being killed. Some later returned to Crimea.
