Theodor Hans-Adalbert von Stockhausen (8 May 1874 – 10 May 1957) was a German officer of the Prussian Army, the Imperial German Army, the Reichswehr and the Wehrmacht, finally Generalmajor and field commander in World War II as well as politician, farmer, landowner and lord of the manor.

Family

Hans-Adalbert was born the son of later Oberst (colonel) Ernst Emil Leopold Adalbert "Albert" von Stockhausen (b. 4 April 1836 in Heiligenstadt, Province of Saxony; d. 1913 in Trendelburg) and his wife (∞ 22 May 1869) Klara Georgine Elise Auguste, née Braun (b. 12 October 1848 in Hannover).

In the year of his birth, his father was the oldest Hauptmann (Captain) in the 1. Badisches Leib-Grenadier-Regiment Nr. 109 in Karlsruhe, commanding the 3rd Company since the Franco-German War. He was also a veteran of the German Civil War in 1866 serving as a Hauptmann in the Füsilier‑Bataillon/1. Hanseatisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 75 (“First hanseatic infantry regiment No. 75”) in Stade as well as earning the Red Eagle Order, 4th Class with Swords, before that as a 1st Lieutenant in the Königs-Grenadier-Regiment (2. Westpreußisches) Nr. 7.

Father Adalbert, since 18 May 1876 Major, Charakter als Oberstleutnant on 6 December 1883 (commanded the II./Hauptkadettenanstalt Groß-Lichterfeld), since 19 September 1888 Oberst (commanding the Kadettenhaus Oranienstein), acquired Trendelburg Castle (lord of the manor) in the Diemel Valley in 1901 based on the old Hessian feudal rights and set it up as a residential castle. Thus, this part of the von Stockhausen family became Hessian. Hans-Adalbert had two older sisters (born 1870 and 1872), that is why he, as the only son, inherited castle and lands in 1913 after his father's death.

• Theodore Charlotte Auguste Gertrud (b. 1 February 1872 in Karlsruhe); ∞ Trendelburg, 25 November 1909 widower Carl Johann Heinrich Müller (b. 27 December 1849 in Wesel; d. 19 June 1935 in Utrecht), wealthy Manufacturer in Utrecht; his first wife (∞ 26 June 1879), Adriana Wilhelmina de Groot, with whom he had eight children, had died on 14 June 1905.

Marriage

On 3 October 1906 in Kassel, Oberleutnant von Stockhausen married his fiancée Eleonore Klothilde Helene Berta Marie Anna Amalie Ilse von Baumbach (b. 31 August 1886 in Kassel). They had five sons, two of whom died in WWII:

• Hans Gerrit Karl Adalbert Theodor (1907–1943), officer of the Kriegsmarine (U-Boot-Kommandant); married father of two
• Hans Adalbert "Albert" Eugen August Theodor Karl Friedrich (1909–1942), art historian, Dr. phil. habil., art protection officer of the Wehrmacht (⚔)
• Hans Wilfried (b. 22 September 1914 in Trendelburg; d. 4 February 2011), officer of the Wehrmacht (Reiter-Regiment Cannstatt / Kavallerie-Regiment 18), shot in the head as a Hauptmann of a reconnaissance battalion during the Battle of Stalingrad, but survived. After study at university, he became a well-known author, journalist and Southeast Asia correspondent.
• Hans Gottfried (b. 12 May 1920 in Trendelburg; 8 January 2010 in Remshalden-Buoch), Wehrmacht since 1939 (Artillerie-Regiment 23 in Potsdam), Oberleutnant, at the age of 21 he was run over in the trenches near Stalingrad, buried and yet saved, wounded five times and decorated, April 1944 British prisoner of war in Italy, from Tarrent to Egypt, POW camp near Alexandria, return to Germany in 1947, from 1947 to 1952 studied at the Stuttgart Art Academy for stained glass and mosaic (under Rudolf Yelin der Jüngere), 1968 lecturer, since 1 October 1971 professor in Stuttgart, internationally renowned with teaching positions in Pilchuck (Washington) and Edinburgh (Scotland); he had a son and a daughter (Hans Friedemann, b. 1 February 1945 in Karlshafen, and Lu-Cornelia, b 3. May 1948) in his first marriage with the painter Adele Anna Margarethe Lahusen (∞ 1944), and two sons in his second marriage with the painter Ada Isensee (∞ 1974). War decorations, but also Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, Merit Cross I Class.
• Hans-Ludwig (b. 12 May 1920 in Trendelburg; d. 9 June 1916 in Hofgeismar), twin of Hans Gottfried, Wehrmacht since 1939, Oberleutnant (1. Kavallerie-Division, later renamed 24. Panzer-Division), wounded during the Battle of Stalingrad, in soviet captivity until 1948/1949, later hotelier (e.g. manager of the "EUROPEAN CASTLE HOLIDAYS GmbH"); his obituary shows a picture of the "Christmas Madonna of Stalingrad".
