Turnhalle Center was a German-American athletic club located in New York City at Broadway between 44th and 45th Street. The cornerstone of the building has the dates 1875 and 1927. The building began as the Long Island City Turn Verein. The Turn Verein or "Turners" as they were know was a German athletic movement which began in the mid-nineteenth century. In time, the movement would develop fascistic political overtones.
The New York building later became a social club. Local residents began to call it Turner Hall or Turn Hall. In the 1930s the German American Bund would hold their national conventions at the Turnhalle Center.
