Joseph Banister
Joseph Banister (born December 6, 1862, St Pancras - died April 12, 1953, St Pancras)[1] was a journalist and most notable as the author of England Under the jews. (1901)[2]
Background
Banister was born on December 6, 1862, in St Pancras.
He was the son of a cow-keeper, and lived at Mill Lane in Hampstead, St Pancras.[3]
In 1924 he was editor of the newspaper British Guardian[4][5] a publication issued by the British fascist organization The Britons.
He died on April 12, 1953, in St Pancras.
The journal, The Outlook, owned by Walter Guiness, a Conservative MP, gave space to the views on Banister.[6]
Holmes[7][8], Toczek[9], and Lunn[10] refer to Banister as being rabidly anti-semitic, openly hostile and Thurlow as him having "pathological malice"[11] when it came to his views on the jews, as expressed in his book, England Under the jews'
Chris Holmes states that "His first traceable contribution to anti-semitic literature came in 1901 and his last in 1934."[12]
In a letter to David Soskice, dated January 25, 1904, Banister wrote, “It is a pity that some kind of vermin exterminator could not be invented by which your vile breed could be eliminated.”[13]
Chris Holmes states that the fullest discussion of Banister's thought is in his article, 'Joseph Banister's Anti-semitism.'[14]
